00:00:37 Matt Marshall

Hi Matt.

00:00:38 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Alright, be quiet now.

00:00:42 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Jinxx errors I'm.

00:00:44 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Really excited and happy to be discussing with you today, Matt tell.

00:00:48 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Him, what we're going to?

00:00:48 Matt Marshall

Go over today.

00:00:49 Matt Marshall

Hey, we're going to hit a lot of cool stuff.

00:00:52 Matt Marshall

Primarily around the army survival guide, and we'll also be hitting on the army version of.

00:01:00 Matt Marshall

Survival acronym using the word survival to convey messages that you can rely on on a regular basis to remind you.

00:01:11 Matt Marshall

Things that you can do to survive.

00:01:14 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Outstanding, I'm excited.

00:01:15 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

This is one of my favorite topics.

00:01:17 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

When I was in the military, it's one of.

00:01:19 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

My favorite books.

00:01:21 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

If you're able to actually view the podcast, and you're not just listening to it, what we're going to have up on the screen share for you is FM 21, dash 76. the US Army survival.

00:01:35 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And a quick history on it.

00:01:38 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It comes from.

00:01:39 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Here's your Google page or your Wikipedia page on survival evasion, resistance, escape.

00:01:45 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Basically we called.

00:01:46 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It SERE School and a lot of military personnel don't end up going to this school 'cause they don't really need to.

00:01:52 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

But a lot of personnel go through different.

00:01:55 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Levels or stages of this school. the US Army has a school called SERE Level C.

00:02:02 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

C As in Charlie or AK as we like to call it camp Slappy.

00:02:07 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

That is the camp where they depict in a.

00:02:13 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

The movie where Demi Moore plays the first female Navy SEAL and they get thrown in a mud pit and beat up and stuff like that at any rate.

00:02:26 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Part of the history, background and purpose of the US Army Survival manual was situations like that it goes all the way back to the 1700s with even back.

00:02:39 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Before we were a nation in the French and Indian wars, we were our militia.

00:02:44 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Men were learning some of these skills.

00:02:46 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

They're very basic, a lot of it goes down to basic fieldcraft and being a fair woodsman.

00:02:55 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Hunting, trapping, fishing, camping.

00:02:58 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It's all in here now.

00:03:00 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

My background in this is this is 1.

00:03:02 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Of the the.

00:03:03 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Books that we used to train on.

00:03:05 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Probably probably about 30% of the time in most of the military units I was in. You'd find some kind of training along these lines, and if it was at the US.

00:03:15 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Army survival manual.

00:03:17 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It would be the Marine core guide or the guidebook for Marines.

00:03:22 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I love this book.

00:03:23 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I'm excited, Matt.

00:03:25 Matt Marshall

Excellent, I'm excited too.

00:03:32 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

A lot of this guys. It goes to basic camping and fieldcraft first aid, expedient first aid, stuff like this, but what you can see in the US.

00:03:46 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Survival manual here in its table of contents is you can go right through the introduction, survival actions, patterns for survival, psychology of survival, A look at stress, basic things like that, natural reactions, preparing yourself.

00:04:02 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And that's what this show that me and Matt do.

00:04:05 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

That's what it's all about.

00:04:06 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Is preparing yourself mentally, psychologically, and that's one of the key things I think a lot of people might forget they doing.

00:04:13 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Probably a lot of physical fitness type activities and prepping as far as gathering and collecting.

00:04:20 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Uhm, supplies and stuff like that.

00:04:23 Speaker 3

Right?

00:04:23 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

But do we are?

00:04:24 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

We really preparing ourselves mentally and emotionally and psychologically for some of the hardships that.

00:04:30 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

We're going to have to deal with.

00:04:31 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

If it's a, uh, preparedness or survival type situation, what do you think, Matt?

00:04:36 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Are we preparing ourselves mentally enough?

00:04:38 Matt Marshall

Well mentally possibly psychologically.

00:04:42 Matt Marshall

Ooh, that's a tough one.

00:04:44 Matt Marshall

It really is.

00:04:45 Matt Marshall

You know it is.

00:04:46 Matt Marshall

I've I've talked about it in in a couple of past episodes and and actually.

00:04:50 Matt Marshall

In a couple of other presentations I've given to.

00:04:53 Matt Marshall

Other other groups.

00:04:54 Matt Marshall

You know, if you if if you see a person injured per southeast, right?

00:04:59 Matt Marshall

Yeah, you've got like.

00:05:00 Matt Marshall

Seconds to respond.

00:05:01 Matt Marshall

If you see a an arterial bleed and it's jetting out, jetting out blood all over the place.

00:05:04 Speaker 1

Right?

00:05:07 Matt Marshall

If you don't respond in seconds, that person is gone.

00:05:10 Matt Marshall

And and it, and just seeing that much blood can can have such an impact on a person.

00:05:16 Matt Marshall

Psycho psychological.

00:05:18 Matt Marshall

Response and then.

00:05:19 Matt Marshall

And then there's the other.

00:05:20 Matt Marshall

The other side of.

00:05:21 Matt Marshall

It which is secure.

00:05:21 Matt Marshall

It which is.

00:05:22 Matt Marshall

Security there's an active shooter, an active assailant coming into and into a grocery store or something like that, and how quickly you can respond and and come to reality.

00:05:33 Matt Marshall

Come to the come to grips with yourself that there is something happening it.

00:05:38 Matt Marshall

I was listening to an episode.

00:05:40 Matt Marshall

Uh, it's actually a a survival podcast.

00:05:43 Matt Marshall

On it's called the big one and it's on earthquakes and that was one of the number one things that these that that happens is that stops people from preparing and that's.

00:05:55 Matt Marshall

They number one.

00:05:56 Matt Marshall

They don't want to think about it.

00:05:58 Matt Marshall

Yeah, they they don't want to think that at any point in time.

00:06:03 Matt Marshall

And this is primarily in California and other places where there's major major fault lines.

00:06:08 Matt Marshall

But if there's some major event that can happen that can affect.

00:06:14 Matt Marshall

So many people lives.

00:06:16 Matt Marshall

And and most people, they just think you.

00:06:20 Matt Marshall

Know what I?

00:06:21 Matt Marshall

Don't have time to think about it and if I do think about it, I just simply realize I am woefully unprepared for anything like that to happen.

00:06:31 Matt Marshall

And then gosh, what what?

00:06:31 Speaker 3

Now a lot of people avoid.

00:06:32 Matt Marshall

How would I respond?

00:06:33 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Avoid thinking about it.

00:06:33 Matt Marshall

You know absolutely.

00:06:34 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Yeah they.

00:06:36 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It's it's uncomfortable to think about unpleasant possibilities.

00:06:40 Matt Marshall

It it really is, it really is the people who put it on who who created that and it's only about 9 episodes long, so it's it is pretty quick listening.

00:06:50 Matt Marshall

Uhm, one of the things that they said it was a it was.

00:06:53 Matt Marshall

A husband and wife, they had a.

00:06:57 Matt Marshall

I think they had one or two children, something like that and they ran through this this video they went through and did tried to do some preparedness type of stuff and you can tell they were on more of a.

00:07:10 Matt Marshall

I don't really believe this is happening.

00:07:13 Matt Marshall

You know, I don't really believe in the in the concept of preparedness, but.

00:07:17 Matt Marshall

They they went and they started interviewing these people and they and they came to one one person that said.

00:07:24 Matt Marshall

They were hoping what they were going to get out of the discussion is we don't need guns.

00:07:31 Matt Marshall

We don't need weapons or anything like that because people will respond.

00:07:36 Matt Marshall

You know it's been proven people respond in positive ways.

00:07:40 Matt Marshall

It was proven in in the in the during the World Trade.

00:07:45 Matt Marshall

Towers coming down that people helped each other and that's why so many people lived through the event.

00:07:51 Matt Marshall

And and I'm going, yeah, but you know what that was one impactful event that happened at a point in time.

00:07:57 Matt Marshall

But there's a.

00:07:58 Matt Marshall

Period of time after events like earthquakes and and tornadoes.

00:08:04 Matt Marshall

Hurricanes when there's a lack of food.

00:08:07 Matt Marshall

When there's a lack of water and the moriar prep.

00:08:11 Matt Marshall

Scared the less urgent things become, the less desperate things become.

00:08:14 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Absolutely no.

00:08:15 Matt Marshall

So yeah, absolutely interesting stuff.

00:08:17 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Hello yeah, something about the touching on real very quick and briefly on firearms.

00:08:23 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

A firearm is a tool that firemint can be a tool for defense, especially something like a hunting rifle.

00:08:29 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It can be a tool for preparedness or survival, like hunting if that's what it's going to come down to.

00:08:38 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And that's it, it's.

00:08:39 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It's just a tool.

00:08:41 Matt Marshall

Yeah, absolutely.

00:08:42 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Bottom line up front for its, but going back to specifically to the survival manual you can see that you can get the hard copy of this and you can go online, find it, you can find it in your surplus stores.

00:08:56 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Other places you can probably get this thing for as levels 12.

00:09:01 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

7 bucks or so and it's.

00:09:05 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Two or 300 great pages of reading you're going to if you're into survival or prepping or camping or fieldcraft at all. There's a lot of survival books out there. There's a lot of fieldcraft bushcraft.

00:09:21 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Those kind of jar of of books and manuals and guides out there.

00:09:25 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

This is probably.

00:09:26 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

One of the best.

00:09:28 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And it's if you're into it at all. It's a joy to read because there's great lessons in digestible pieces throughout the whole book, and it goes just ABC one through 123 light on down the line that you see the table of contents here.

00:09:48 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And just so you guys know also.

00:09:49 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

We flip over here.

00:09:51 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And Matt showed me this earlier.

00:09:54 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You can actually go to your Google Play and there's actually the Army survival handbook offline manual guide app.

00:10:01 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It's not going to have all the pages, it's not going to have all the illustrations, probably, but there's a preview of some of that, so you can get the app.

00:10:10 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You can get the hardcover, write your own notes in there.

00:10:14 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You can download the PDF that we're going to be going over.

00:10:18 Matt Marshall

Straight from the App Store.

00:10:21 Matt Marshall

I downloaded mine.

00:10:22 Matt Marshall

It did cost a buck for me to for me to download it, but I think it was.

00:10:26 Matt Marshall

It was more than worth it, and it's got a lot of really cool information.

00:10:29 Matt Marshall

The other thing that was kind of cool about the one that I got is it actually has flash cards to yeah, little little fun.

00:10:35 Matt Marshall

Things that you can do that had this table topics thing where you can.

00:10:38 Matt Marshall

You can throw a question out on the table and it gives you the basic answer, but you can throw it out as a question to.

00:10:43 Matt Marshall

Ask around the table type of thing so it's.

00:10:45 Matt Marshall

Pretty fun.

00:10:46 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And there's another game out there.

00:10:48 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

A few of the former seals.

00:10:50 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Or SAS have?

00:10:51 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Done a few flash card type things for survival and.

00:11:00 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Great stuff.

00:11:01 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It's it, but all the stuff is out there.

00:11:04 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

There's plenty of knowledge and information out there and I'm really excited to go over this part of it, right?

00:11:09 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Here this is this one, right?

00:11:11 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Here chapter 4 basic survival medicine.

00:11:14 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

This was always one of my favorites because in the Marines and the army we used to go over.

00:11:21 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Basic combat lifesaving skills all the time. We would do nasal pharyngeal's. I had to actually.

00:11:28 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Uhm, do a stick of an idea couple of people in real world environments because they were dehydrated. We're in like 130 degree heat.

00:11:37 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You never can tell when you're going to have to get that ID bag or.

00:11:40 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Something like.

00:11:40 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

That splinting fractures.

00:11:44 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Types of types of wounds.

00:11:46 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Types of bleeding.

00:11:48 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Treatment for shock.

00:11:50 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

All that kind of stuff.

00:11:51 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You have a whole chapter in here on basic survival medicine.

00:11:56 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I love this chapter 2 survival planning and survival kits.

00:12:00 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

There you go.

00:12:01 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Right there it's what we love, kids.

00:12:01 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Right kids?

00:12:02 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It's what it comes.

00:12:03 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

That's a lot of stuff.

00:12:05 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

We, the Rangers, whenever we'd get a Ranger in the group.

00:12:09 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

They would love to show us.

00:12:11 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Different little things that they put in their little personal Survival kit.

00:12:15 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Yeah, it was great stuff, but what I want to go over first, I guess first and foremost in most tantamount in chapter.

00:12:24 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

One is the introduction.

00:12:33 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And this goes to the whole book, the the beauty of this book, as you see.

00:12:40 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

In the introduction is that this manual is based entirely on the keyword survival.

00:12:47 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

The letters in this word can help guide you in your actions in any survival situation.

00:12:53 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Whenever faced with a survival situation, remember the word survival.

00:12:58 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

So in its introduction it's going over the the acronym survival and you go right through those things.

00:13:04 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

So you take these survival actions and ***** size up your situation, your surroundings, your personal physical condition, what are you currently capable of doing?

00:13:16 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Are you sick?

00:13:16 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Are you injured?

00:13:19 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Size up your equipment.

00:13:20 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Do you have your go bag?

00:13:23 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Your Survival kit?

00:13:24 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Yeah, is it full?

00:13:26 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Have you depleted some of the objects in there so you use of all your all of your senses?

00:13:33 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Use all of your senses and undue haste makes waste.

00:13:39 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Can you keep going down the line or is for remember where you are?

00:13:45 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

This is huge.

00:13:47 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

This is one of the key elements to it is where are you location wise?

00:13:53 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Do you know which way is north, South East or West?

00:13:58 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Do you live out in the outskirts?

00:14:00 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It's somewhere in the wilderness near Baltimore and you're lost.

00:14:04 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

But you know that you're.

00:14:05 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You know at least you.

00:14:06 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Know hey, I'm about 25 minutes South southwest of Baltimore.

00:14:14 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Know where you are.

00:14:15 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Remember where you are.

00:14:16 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Are you in the desert in the middle of nowhere?

00:14:19 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You've got some key key training features to look for and.

00:14:22 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Stuff like that.

00:14:24 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

These for Vanquish fear and panic.

00:14:26 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

This goes to the psychology of any preparedness or survival situation, and it can be hard.

00:14:34 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

One of our leadership acronym letters is C for courage.

00:14:39 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Courage is a very hard thing to define.

00:14:44 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It's very intangible.

00:14:45 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It's a little bit vague until something.

00:14:49 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Huge hits you.

00:14:51 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And are you shrinking or backing away from it or or running away or or in fear?

00:14:58 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And you're letting fear?

00:14:59 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Overcome you or are you at least somehow psychologically and mentally prepared?

00:15:06 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

A little bit.

00:15:07 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And you know, OK, I know where I am.

00:15:10 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I I'm a little bit prepared.

00:15:12 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I have a little bit of a kit with me.

00:15:14 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I can do this so Vanquish that fear and panic.

00:15:18 Speaker 1

This is something.

00:15:19 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You probably want to key on a little.

00:15:21 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Bit more right now.

00:15:22 Matt Marshall

It's it's interesting you say that because me not having come from an army or military type of background.

00:15:32 Matt Marshall

Yet I see this and I feel this every day.

00:15:35 Matt Marshall

The need to to Vanquish fear and panic I.

00:15:38 Matt Marshall

I think I've told you this in a in a story before but we we put a.

00:15:45 Matt Marshall

We put a a product review up on on our YouTube and actually in a in a podcast, a short podcast earlier in the year and that was on the fast strike tool.

00:15:58 Matt Marshall

And this is a.

00:15:58 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

That was a great podcast episode.

00:16:00 Matt Marshall

It's it's essentially it's a.

00:16:03 Matt Marshall

It's what people refer to as a tactical whip and and the reason I find that so value.

00:16:08 Matt Marshall

People is it's it's not a deadly weapon.

00:16:12 Matt Marshall

Uhm yet it will cause severe pain and it'll scare this.

00:16:17 Matt Marshall

It'll scare your opponent a lot.

00:16:21 Matt Marshall

So I the the the point in time that I like to think about this is I was actually going through some concealed carry class.

00:16:29 Matt Marshall

And I we were just learning.

00:16:30 Matt Marshall

We were just learning about how to.

00:16:36 Matt Marshall

Deescalate a situation right and and I remember I had just come out of the class.

00:16:44 Matt Marshall

My wife and I went for a walk.

00:16:47 Matt Marshall

And this neighborhood Hoodlum came up and thought he'd start some start some stuff with me.

00:16:54 Matt Marshall

Yep, and he did and he got it kind of got in my face and my initial response is.

00:17:01 Matt Marshall

I'm a grown man.

00:17:03 Matt Marshall

This is a kid who's trying to start some stuff and I'm and I'm thinking to myself if I had a concealed carry weapon, would I pull it out right now?

00:17:13 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Right?

00:17:14 Matt Marshall

No to.

00:17:15 Matt Marshall

And and I know the lesson from the from the training was no, you deescalate the situation.

00:17:21 Matt Marshall

First, walk away if you can.

00:17:23 Matt Marshall

And you know some way to get away.

00:17:26 Matt Marshall

So you don't.

00:17:26 Matt Marshall

Have to pull out a weapon, OK and.

00:17:29 Matt Marshall

But this this?

00:17:30 Matt Marshall

Fast Strike tool makes one feel comfortable.

00:17:34 Matt Marshall

It's so quick to whip out the back pocket or pull off a pull off of a backpack or whatever it may be, and you have two distinct.

00:17:44 Matt Marshall

Attacks that you can do if needed, right?

00:17:46 Matt Marshall

Uh, whipping attack across the face and then and then a a hammer.

00:17:51 Matt Marshall

Fist type of attack.

00:17:52 Matt Marshall

That'll cause some pretty severe damage to collarbones and so on.

00:17:55 Matt Marshall

If if if you feel like you're in that type of threatening situation, but but it's those type of situations you think that.

00:18:03 Matt Marshall

They most times.

00:18:06 Matt Marshall

People are people are cool yeah, but then there are other times and they happen every single day to millions of people.

00:18:16 Matt Marshall

So just be ready and be ready to Vanquish that fear and panic that according to the according to the the acronym here.

00:18:24 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Yeah, that your last point that you mentioned there Matt is is pretty important.

00:18:30 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

There's two things I want to touch on that.

00:18:31 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It's number one if you have some kind of weapon.

00:18:36 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And you feel like you really have to use it.

00:18:38 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You should use try at least to use an extreme amount of caution with downward blows to the head or neck, because that can almost be deadly force if you have anything in your hand anyway.

00:18:51 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

'cause that on the head that that that can cause death or serious bodily harm, just be careful.

00:18:56 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Right, you gotta at least try to be prepared and trained at least a little bit in that.

00:19:00 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Yeah, #2 as far as what Matt said about people, you can just be walking down the street minding nobody business but your own anymore.

00:19:11 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

These days almost any query USA and somebody you never know what their condition is.

00:19:16 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

They could be tweaked out on methamphetamine or whatever else and they just.

00:19:21 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

They just want to fight with you and.

00:19:24 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Although the crime statistics throughout the US over the last 20 years is a very very slow.

00:19:34 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

A downward pattern, so it's dropping a little bit.

00:19:39 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It's still pretty status quo, so there's still a more of a fear of crime out there than there is actual crime.

00:19:46 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

The problem is there still is a good ratio of potentiality for any kind of violent encounter in the US Army when they teach combatives to the most of the troops, not combatives level one anyway.

00:20:00 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

They said this is this is survival of the Walmart parking lot.

00:20:04 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

That's that's the joke that they're saying is.

00:20:08

You just go.

00:20:08 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Into a Walmart parking lot and there's just so.

00:20:10 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Many people there that are just.

00:20:11 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

So frustrated with whatever.

00:20:13 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Reasons and they have so much angst and anxiety.

00:20:17 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And road rage.

00:20:19 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

They could be pulling in with a lot of road rage for whatever reasons, and my friend that's a Lieutenant with Albuquerque Police Department.

00:20:27 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

He says that new new movie with Russell Crowe about road rage.

00:20:31 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I forgot the title of it.

00:20:33 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I did watch it because he said it was good.

00:20:35 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I didn't really like it that much, but.

00:20:37 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Uhm, he said he has to deal.

00:20:39 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

With a scenario similar to that, almost every.

00:20:43 Matt Marshall

No, thank goodness.

00:20:43 Speaker 1

But he's.

00:20:43 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

A Lieutenant on motors patrols who's on a motorcycle he's dealing mostly with motorists.

00:20:48 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And he says he has to.

00:20:49 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Deal with a.

00:20:50 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Nearly violent physical confrontation over road rage almost every day, so there's all those potentiality's out there. And whatever the situation comes out, whether it's.

00:21:04 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Face to face, one on one or other kind of personal confrontation, whether it's bad weather or an earthquake.

00:21:11 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Whether there's a huge power outage or whatever else causes you to be in a preparedness and get your you know, a preparedness action and you've got to get your go back or whatever and go whatever the situation.

00:21:23 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Think about it a little bit.

00:21:24 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Plan about it a little bit.

00:21:26 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Matt and I talked about planning and thinking in a previous episode, vanquished that.

00:21:31 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Fear and panic because it's not going to serve you any good.

00:21:34 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You're going to, especially if you have tools like this survival manual.

00:21:38 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And if you don't have it online or in your app, or the electricity goes down, or whatever, if you do happen to have.

00:21:47 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Uhm, the handbook or a handbook?

00:21:51 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You have all the information here.

00:21:53 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You need to survive most.

00:21:56 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Perceivable situations.

00:21:59 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Is that a fair assessment now?

00:22:01 Matt Marshall

Yeah, absolutely.

00:22:02 Matt Marshall

I I was going to make one more comment about the about having a book available for you.

00:22:07 Matt Marshall

An actual physical book, great thing to have really cool things on your on your iPhone or on your on your Google phone.

00:22:15 Matt Marshall

Fantastic, but always have a backup.

00:22:19 Matt Marshall

What's the old saying?

00:22:21 Matt Marshall

Ah, two is 1.

00:22:23 Matt Marshall

One is none.

00:22:24 Matt Marshall

I think that's an old saying.

00:22:26 Speaker 3

That's a it's.

00:22:27 Matt Marshall

Primarily around water.

00:22:29 Matt Marshall

If you water and starting fires always have a the ability to do this.

00:22:35 Matt Marshall

To two ways, because two ways one might fail.

00:22:38 Matt Marshall

That leaves you with one.

00:22:40 Matt Marshall

If you only have one and that one fails, you have none.

00:22:44 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Yeah, better to have it and not need it than need it.

00:22:46 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And not have it as part of what?

00:22:48 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

We used to teach.

00:22:49 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Every time we go over this survival.

00:22:51 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Manual things like that and.

00:22:53 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And here's another big one.

00:22:54 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I the island survival, improvise and listen to what these guys in the US Army that were writing this. It's it's right here. It says in the United States we have items available for all our needs.

00:23:12 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Many of these items are cheap to replace when damaged, our easy come easy go.

00:23:17 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Easy to replace culture makes it unnecessary for us to improvise this inexperience in improvisation can be an enemy in a survival situation.

00:23:29 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Learn to improvise.

00:23:31 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Take a tool.

00:23:32 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Design for a specific purpose and see how many other uses you can make of it.

00:23:37 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Learn to use natural objects around you for different needs.

00:23:41 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

An example is using a rock for a hammer.

00:23:44 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Things like that, so you're in a survival situation.

00:23:48 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

If the eye is for improvise, you're going to have to let your imagination take over.

00:23:53 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You're going to have to improvise, and you know the old adage is.

00:23:58 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You know, give a guy super glue and duct tape and he'll pretty much fix anything right now.

00:24:03 Matt Marshall

Duct tape yes Sir.

00:24:05 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Duct tape, and that's actually a.

00:24:09 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

As far as like building in York?

00:24:11 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It's a little bit of some type of super glue.

00:24:13 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

In a a really good container where it doesn't leak and stuff like that and a lot of good 100 mile an hour tape is what we used to call it. But duct tape that should be in your Survival kit.

00:24:25 Matt Marshall

Absolutely, paracord is another one that's very, very important and and helpful to improve.

00:24:32 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And fast eat fast and easy to get cheap and it doesn't take much space or weight in your Survival kit.

00:24:36 Speaker 1

Yep, Yep.

00:24:41 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

The second V in survival is value living and I think this is going to get more and more important in the future because I think I just get the vibe that.

00:24:53 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Different people and different generations, different stages in their life, especially in these days with COVID and so much weird news and everything else like that.

00:25:03 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

If it if when the chips are really all down on the table, I can see a lot of people just going and just giving up and and that little bit of hesitation or or something in any of these situations can be the difference.

00:25:11 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Yeah, yeah.

00:25:18 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Maybe sometimes in life and death as well.

00:25:20 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

So always stay positive.

00:25:23 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Stay motivated and value living.

00:25:26 Matt Marshall

Now one of the man, oh man, one of the things that we that we have been trying to instill in our now all three adult children is is that it's life is like a rollercoaster, and there are always going to be highs.

00:25:26 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

What do you think about?

00:25:27 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

That one, Matt.

00:25:42 Matt Marshall

And there are always going to be lows and the.

00:25:45 Matt Marshall

Coolest part is none of them last.

00:25:48 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Right?

00:25:49 Matt Marshall

None of them last.

00:25:50 Matt Marshall

So you're so you're in this situation where you might be super down.

00:25:54 Matt Marshall

Right now my my daughter had a situation where she was, you know she had a boyfriend for a period of time, broke up with that boyfriend, had a little bit of a rough time and and things seemed to be going downhill.

00:26:06 Matt Marshall

And of course she just graduated and spent the last year and a half.

00:26:10 Matt Marshall

Of her high school high school life.

00:26:14 Matt Marshall

At home because of COVID right?

00:26:16 Matt Marshall

Completely isolated, she they tried to do as much as they could with the with the public schooling and.

00:26:21 Matt Marshall

On, but it was terrible, and the public school did not respond very well to these kids that were seeming to just drift off.

00:26:31 Matt Marshall

She so much so that she just said I, I don't care if I go to graduation or not.

00:26:36 Matt Marshall

What's the point?

00:26:37 Matt Marshall

Why should I even bother going to graduation?

00:26:40 Matt Marshall

And so it was really, really frustrating.

00:26:42 Matt Marshall

For her to.

00:26:43 Matt Marshall

Have to feel that and as a parent for us to have to watch her going through that.

00:26:48 Matt Marshall

But she also just in the last couple of weeks she's been going to starting at a Community College.

00:26:53 Matt Marshall

She's been starting to meet new people.

00:26:55 Matt Marshall

She's seen a new, a new friend, just.

00:26:58 Matt Marshall

You know things are kind of lightning up for her and this is a perfect lesson for perfect time to teach that lesson that the highs can be there.

00:27:06 Matt Marshall

They won't last.

00:27:07 Matt Marshall

The lows have been there, they won't last either.

00:27:10 Matt Marshall

It's just going to be a constant roller coaster.

00:27:12 Matt Marshall

Which kind of?

00:27:13 Matt Marshall

Makes it fun.

00:27:14 Matt Marshall

But also can make it difficult if you don't like change.

00:27:17 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

So absolutely yeah.

00:27:19 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And here's the thing at the bottom sentence in this value living, they say, stubbornness, a refusal to give in to the problems and obstacles that you face.

00:27:31 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Will give you the mental and physical strength to endure.

00:27:35 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Yeah, and that's like in the.

00:27:37 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I felt like we never really needed it because I felt.

00:27:40 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Like we always.

00:27:41 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Had a fairly urgent mission when I was in the Marines.

00:27:44 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I was younger.

00:27:44 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I was more impressionable when I got in my later army units, they had to teach this kind of stuff.

00:27:50 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

There's a little bit.

00:27:52 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It seemed like a little bit of a diluted mission.

00:27:54 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

What I was on mostly there was counterdrug support missions.

00:27:57 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Things like this, not a more infantry overseas combat type of mission in some cases, so it depends on what kind of unit your animal kind of experiences you had.

00:28:10 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

But what I heard in the army that.

00:28:12 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I didn't like the way it sounded then, but it is true now.

00:28:16 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

The army would always say.

00:28:20 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

False motivation.

00:28:22 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Is better than no motivation at all.

00:28:24 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

So especially not if we're leaders in our community.

00:28:27 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Even if we're the ones that are feeling overwhelmed or down or whatever, we gotta pull it up out of somewhere we we got.

00:28:37 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Dig dig deep down inside and we've got it at least put forth.

00:28:42 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

A really good appearance and attitude and seriously, even if it's a little bit of a facade, even if you are a little bit worried or something like.

00:28:50 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

That if you're the leader of a group in, say, your your family or in somewhere in your community and something really going South.

00:29:00 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

The people that are leaders.

00:29:02 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

They need to stand up and at least be as sure and positive and confident as possible because people like to emulate good leaders and attitudes are contagious.

00:29:14 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Is yours worth catching now?

00:29:17 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

If you're going to be a defeatist and you

00:29:20 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Yeah, like, let's say the movie aliens where?

00:29:25 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

The guy was like.

00:29:26 Speaker 3

We're all gardeners.

00:29:28 Speaker 3

Weird dude, we just.

00:29:30 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Did and Sigourney Weaver's character has sasta?

00:29:33 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Going shut up, yeah.

00:29:36 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

We're going to get through this, you know.

00:29:38 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It was a funny scene.

00:29:39 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Everybody remembers that scene.

00:29:41 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

If you've seen any movies.

00:29:44 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

So so it's.

00:29:44 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It's a good.

00:29:45 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Example, if the chips are really falling on the on the table that if things are really going South, stay motivated.

00:29:54 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Vanquish fear and value living and stay positive and and that stubbornness and.

00:30:02 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Can do spirit, you're just not going to get me down today.

00:30:05 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

We're going to get through this one way or another.

00:30:07 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

What do you think of that, Matt?

00:30:08 Matt Marshall

Yeah man, value living I it's it's it's so impressive and so such an incredible saying and thought to to value living and I I like what you said about staying positive.

00:30:21 Matt Marshall

It is very very difficult to do sometimes especially you know when I I hate to keep.

00:30:28 Matt Marshall

Bringing up COVID, but it's such a it's such an easy, you know, an easy place to go because there's so many other things that can cause frustrations.

00:30:37 Matt Marshall

Job loss or or job change?

00:30:39 Matt Marshall

Or you know, if a failure in school or whatever it may be.

00:30:44 Matt Marshall

Anything can happen to us to get us down and and one of the things I'm I'm probably pretty common in this, but one of the things I like to do is just.

00:30:55 Matt Marshall

Take a nap and I've done this my entire life, so it's not like it's not just a Gen X thing I'm telling you.

00:31:01 Matt Marshall

It's not just the Gen X.

00:31:03 Matt Marshall

Thing I loved. One of the things that that happened when our when our oldest son was born. It was a very, very difficult birth and it lasted about 26 hours.

00:31:15 Matt Marshall

We were both extremely exhausted and there was a there was a lot of struggle around it and and.

00:31:23 Matt Marshall

At one point.

00:31:24 Matt Marshall

It's just in the in the hospital room.

00:31:27 Matt Marshall

I just passed out on a very small couch and the lady actually came in.

00:31:31 Matt Marshall

The cleaning lady actually came in and started vacuuming and she was hitting the couch and I was just completely passed out.

00:31:37 Matt Marshall

Just would not wake up because I was.

00:31:40 Matt Marshall

I was trying to recharge.

00:31:41 Matt Marshall

I'm just like Nope, Nope can't not, not hearing.

00:31:44 Matt Marshall

Anything not feeling anything so yeah.

00:31:47 Matt Marshall

Value living.

00:31:48 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

That and and you know, being motivated and positive and value living Vanquish fear.

00:31:54 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

All that that goes so far.

00:31:55 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

But if you're in a really high stress situation, you do need sleep sooner or later.

00:32:02 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

If you go through Ranger School, which I did go through the full Ranger School, I went through an abbreviated.

00:32:07 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Version of it.

00:32:08 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You will get sleep deprivation, so you'll be up maybe three or four nights straight.

00:32:12 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

The Ranger School has a whole week long uh SEAL team.

00:32:16 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Hell Week has about a week long.

00:32:18 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Everything else like that.

00:32:19 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

But even World War Two Marines and other Army soldiers that were out there battling the enemy on evil.

00:32:26 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

GMA when there were lulls in the battle, there'd be sergeants that go through, and the ranks say you, you and you.

00:32:33 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You guys go to sleep.

00:32:34 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You guys have been up for like 3.

00:32:35 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Or four days.

00:32:36 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You guys are you guys are on watch this time going to be the the eyes and ears and the defense that these guys have to rest even in even in a combat situation.

00:32:47 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

There's been people that have basically taken charge and and told people you go to sleep.

00:32:52 Matt Marshall

It that would sure be valuable to have between husband and wife.

00:32:56 Matt Marshall

I have a situation where somebody can come through and say OK, you go take a nap.

00:33:04 Matt Marshall

You you gotta, you gotta cover for just a little while and then you can take a nap after you know or something like that 'cause.

00:33:09 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Yeah, it all comes down to communication.

00:33:11 Matt Marshall

It comes down to communication and compromise, yeah?

00:33:15 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And compromise so that map that aid in survival is.

00:33:19 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Act like the.

00:33:20 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Natives, and I'll have a whole lot for that.

00:33:22 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

But because it?

00:33:23 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

That's a whole topic.

00:33:24 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

On unto itself, depending on the the situation, so you know, but.

00:33:31 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Maybe your business travel when you're in Tehran, Iran or you're in Azerbaijan, Baku, Azerbaijan or you're in the Caucasus or the Philippines, or Moscow, Russia or whatever.

00:33:45 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Well, first of all certain result or in Chicago.

00:33:46 Matt Marshall

Or in Chicago.

00:33:50 Speaker 3

First of all.

00:33:52 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

In most of those situations, maybe even in Chicago, you don't want to be waving around your American flag and saying America.

00:34:04 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Because you ever heard of the Heat seeking missile?

00:34:08 Speaker 3

Yeah, you don't want to be that heat source for the seeking missile.

00:34:11 Speaker 1

And then he's.

00:34:13 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Right, right, right, yeah.

00:34:13 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Right, right?

00:34:14 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Survival right act like the natives.

00:34:18 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Don't act like the, uh, the big part of that act, like the natives from me, especially when you're traveling, is don't act like the typical ignorant American tourists.

00:34:29 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Americans are almost universally loathed throughout the world, except maybe a little bit in Canada, Britain in Australia and New Zealand, or.

00:34:37 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Something like that, but.

00:34:38 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Uh, if you're touring.

00:34:40 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Or you're on a business trip they.

00:34:42 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Love our money, Yep.

00:34:44 Speaker 3

And a lot of people like us.

00:34:46 Speaker 3

They just.

00:34:46 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Don't like the country, the government, the politics, the news, and they take it out on you as an individual.

00:34:54 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

When you go traveling so you don't want to, you don't want to be a.

00:34:58 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You know high profile American tourist out there.

00:35:00 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Act like the natives.

00:35:02 Matt Marshall

Yeah I would.

00:35:02 Matt Marshall

I would clarify that with one with one important distinction.

00:35:08 Matt Marshall

I think they I think they actually do.

00:35:10 Matt Marshall

Like Americans, you know.

00:35:13 Matt Marshall

I think a lot of foreign countries do like and love.

00:35:16 Matt Marshall

You're right, they love the money that's coming.

00:35:19 Matt Marshall

But they they do, they absolutely hate tourists.

00:35:23 Matt Marshall

They don't like it when dumb, apparently dumb Americans.

00:35:29 Matt Marshall

Those who don't even try to speak the language.

00:35:31 Matt Marshall

Those who don't even try to recognize that they're in a completely different culture, that's what they hate about Americans.

00:35:39 Matt Marshall

About the the classic tourist American.

00:35:41 Matt Marshall

The person that.

00:35:42 Matt Marshall

Really doesn't have a clue where they're at, you know, and that's part of what one of the parts of this survival acronym is recognize where you are, where the heck you are, and act like the natives.

00:35:53 Matt Marshall

I I used to, I used to pride myself on I I actually used to say it and I still I still say it sometimes and that's my ability to be like a chameleon to go in.

00:36:03 Matt Marshall

And out of different groups I could go in in our Member.

00:36:06 Matt Marshall

In high school I could I could hang out with the with the tweekers I could hang out with the Native American groups I could hang out with the jocks.

00:36:13 Matt Marshall

'cause I was, you know I was.

00:36:15 Matt Marshall

In football basketball track.

00:36:17 Matt Marshall

I could hang out with the Cowboys.

00:36:19 Matt Marshall

It didn't matter.

00:36:20 Matt Marshall

I could move in and out of each one of these groups and it didn't.

00:36:24 Matt Marshall

Didn't matter who I was around.

00:36:26 Matt Marshall

Call that call that what you will I call it a chameleon and it's just simply that that concept acting like a acting like the natives you know.

00:36:37 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Yeah guys, that doesn't go to.

00:36:40 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Any type of cowardice, by the way, you're not backing down or anything else.

00:36:45 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Like that, but you.

00:36:46 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Go into a foreign country or anywhere else like.

00:36:48 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

That, and it's just you or.

00:36:50 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Just a small team or something like.

00:36:51 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

That and and this this.

00:36:54 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I mean even the.

00:36:56 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Baddest of the bad Navy seals, delta force, whoever else they've been operating in, Peshawar, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, whoever else.

00:37:07 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

They're going to tell you the same thing they want.

00:37:09 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

They dress and act like the natives they dress.

00:37:12 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Up in Arab clothes.

00:37:13 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

They actually try to get a tan.

00:37:15 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

They try to let their beards grow.

00:37:17 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

They they don't go in their in their team America gear with patches and everything that.

00:37:22 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Says U.S. special forces or something.

00:37:24 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

So this isn't something about being Billy Bad.

00:37:27 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Gas or something guys?

00:37:28 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Act like the.

00:37:29 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Natives if if you're traveling or in that kind of situation, it's it's going to really.

00:37:35 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

They pay you long dividends in the end plus.

00:37:37 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Cultural awareness and appreciation for different cultures, like Matt said that goes a long way into developing a really solid good report.

00:37:46 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And if you're in different countries in different places, you should be appreciative of some of those cultures.

00:37:52 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Anyway, enough just.

00:37:52 Matt Marshall

Yeah, yeah.

00:37:54 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You're one person in a country of millions of people.

00:37:57 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Last thing you're going to do is spit on their Buddhist statues or something just because you're a hardline Christian or something like.

00:38:04 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

That you can keep you.

00:38:05 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Or moralistic compass and values and religious values.

00:38:10 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And everything else like that.

00:38:12 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And be respectful and be the silent American.

00:38:17 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

That's that's why I like to be.

00:38:18 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I like to be the silent American.

00:38:20 Matt Marshall

I remember I'll, I'll tell you one funny story and then we can move on if you if you want to, but, uh, I was in.

00:38:28 Matt Marshall

I was traveling in Munich, Germany during Oktoberfest, which is the capital of Oktoberfest and huge beer steins and Hofbrauhaus and lots of drunk people.

00:38:45 Matt Marshall

It was so much fun and.

00:38:48 Matt Marshall

And myself and my partner were it was a female female gal that I was walking that I was doing traveling with and we were walking down one of the streets to get to hofbrauhaus which is one of the most popular places you can go.

00:39:01 Matt Marshall

And that's where the ladies, the German ladies come out with the 66 huge beer steins and they're walking along.

00:39:06 Matt Marshall

Anyways, we we somehow so we're walking down the street.

00:39:10 Matt Marshall

There's lots of people around and and we somehow got behind these these groups of big guys.

00:39:19 Matt Marshall

Right, and you know, there's traffic going both ways and these guys.

00:39:26 Matt Marshall

One of them just kind of stands up says get the.

00:39:29 Matt Marshall

EFF out of my way.

00:39:31 Matt Marshall

I'm an American.

00:39:35 Matt Marshall

Yeah, Oh my goodness, that was not blending in.

00:39:39 Matt Marshall

That was not being like one of the natives that was being a complete ******* is what that was doing and it and you know it.

00:39:48 Matt Marshall

Was at that.

00:39:48 Matt Marshall

Point in time, myself and the person I was traveling with.

00:39:52 Matt Marshall

We were thinking, huh?

00:39:54 Matt Marshall

Maybe we ought to so some Canadian.

00:39:55 Matt Marshall

Patches on our.

00:39:56 Matt Marshall

Backpacks, yeah check.

00:39:57 Matt Marshall

Yeah, check I'm out.

00:39:57 Matt Marshall

Yeah, check I'm out, I'm out.

00:39:58 Speaker 3

Please, I'm not with him.

00:40:01 Matt Marshall

I'm out, yeah.

00:40:02 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Yeah, actually Matt, we can keep talking about this because this goes back to know who you are, where you are and act like the natives.

00:40:11 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And we're going into ale.

00:40:12 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Live by your way.

00:40:13 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

But I was traveling. I've actually traveled to a couple of places where there's actually quite a few places outside of the US.

00:40:24 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Leave it or not, there's.

00:40:27 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

A little bit of shady.

00:40:28 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Stuff going on on the side out.

00:40:30 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

There and there's areas where.

00:40:34 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

That's what it's known for is a little.

00:40:37 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Bit of shittiness.

00:40:38 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

So if you're say in Mexico or Costa Rica or the Philippines or Thailand, or parts of eastern.

00:40:48 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Sure, and you happen to get in that area where it's like Pattaya Beach.

00:40:55 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Thailand, Bangkok, Thailand and you end up for whatever reason, maybe accidentally going into the soy cowboy part of Pattaya and there's all those strip clubs and **** **** and you see all those Americans there.

00:41:14 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Depending on what you're traveling there for, if you're not there for basically sex tourism, you might want to avoid the area because everybody over there is going to look at you and see that you're not a native and assume that.

00:41:28 Speaker 3

You're with, you know you're one of those guys.

00:41:31 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And it's going to make you a target so.

00:41:34 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It goes into knowing where you are acting like the natives with fire.

00:41:39 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It's kind of, you know, situational awareness.

00:41:42 Speaker 3

There's stuff going.

00:41:42 Speaker 3

On in the world that's a little bit.

00:41:44 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Shady you might run into a drug area.

00:41:46 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You might run into a place in Rome.

00:41:49 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Next thing you know, you're in a part of Romania where there's the apartments where they're doing all the webcam stuff.

00:41:57 Matt Marshall

Oh yeah.

00:41:57 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

What what are you doing there?

00:41:59 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

They might think that.

00:42:01 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You're part of some sort of FBI.

00:42:04 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Group that's trying to do a sting or.

00:42:07 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Something never can tell.

00:42:07 Speaker 1

Yeah, yeah.

00:42:08 Speaker 3

So just always always air on.

00:42:11 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

The side of caution, because your life and health and safety are what's at that state here.

00:42:17 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And if you're.

00:42:18 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Traveling, or you're in a survival situation.

00:42:21 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You are not.

00:42:22 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

At home.

00:42:24 Speaker 3

You are not.

00:42:25 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You know that safe?

00:42:26 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You can't just be really nilly and carry yourself with too much bravado.

00:42:32 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

So I would I would ask you and and recommend to air on the side of caution and just avoid those situations like.

00:42:40 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I flew into Bangkok and I toured around the way.

00:42:43 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I wanted tourists all the lots and things like that and then I saw some other CD stuff and I got on a train to get 2 hours, two or three hours South to a small nice touristy area where it's just a beach.

00:42:56 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Nice food, good people and I didn't have to worry.

00:42:59 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

About any of that other crazy stuff going on.

00:43:03 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Yeah, in other parts of Bangkok.

00:43:05 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

So that's just my two cents on that.

00:43:08 Speaker 1

What is what?

00:43:08 Matt Marshall

Well, I I I I like the live by that on on the live by your wits portion.

00:43:14 Matt Marshall

There's the there's the second half of that right which is learn basic skills and I think that's that's one thing.

00:43:21 Matt Marshall

It it it kind of wraps up the whole survival very, very well.

00:43:27 Matt Marshall

I really do because if you.

00:43:28 Matt Marshall

Don't you know like?

00:43:30 Matt Marshall

We always talk about this and when we when we have our bug out bags or our kids or our get home safe bags or whatever it may be.

00:43:37 Matt Marshall

If you have this really, really cool kid.

00:43:39 Matt Marshall

But, and you never use it, you never train yourself on how to use the different items that are inside of it.

00:43:44 Matt Marshall

You have no idea what's inside.

00:43:46 Matt Marshall

Of it, then how would?

00:43:47 Matt Marshall

You ever be able to use that as a survival tool or group of tools?

00:43:52 Matt Marshall

So learning basic skills, even if it's just something as simple as one of the things I started doing just recently.

00:43:59 Matt Marshall

This going out and I'm I'm hoping.

00:44:01 Matt Marshall

To actually start.

00:44:02 Matt Marshall

Recording some videos on a regular basis in slow.

00:44:04 Matt Marshall

Motion of me.

00:44:06 Matt Marshall

Using the using the Ferrell rod and the the different types of fire starters to go out and start a fire in my in our fire pit out there.

00:44:14 Speaker 1

Just to yeah.

00:44:15 Matt Marshall

Just to test it out and test my skills and learn these different capabilities, you know, so learning learning those basic skills is another really, really good way of preparing yourself.

00:44:31 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And that's I was about to just jump in on that.

00:44:35 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

One both feet.

00:44:37 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

That's where I live by his basic skills guys.

00:44:40 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

If you guys haven't noticed Matt and I or not, you know like I say.

00:44:44 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Bear Grylls with this 15 plus year.

00:44:48 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

British SAS.

00:44:49 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Guy that has his.

00:44:50 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Own line of survival knives now, right?

00:44:53 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

So I mean?

00:44:54 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

We're not novices by any means.

00:44:57 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I've probably lived at least five years of nights either sleeping on the ground or in a cot, or the back of a.

00:45:05 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Humvee or truck at best.

00:45:08 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

So I've got that much experience, but I've always relied on these basics.

00:45:15 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

This whole book is.

00:45:16 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

So easy to read.

00:45:17 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It's so easy to learn and and this guidebook or any other like it is is really.

00:45:22 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Going to be.

00:45:23 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

A huge tool in your arsenal for information on survival.

00:45:28 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Or preparedness, what do you think, Matt?

00:45:30 Matt Marshall

That's excellent, yeah, I'm I'm very encouraged.

00:45:34 Matt Marshall

Good stuff.

00:45:34 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Yeah, this stuff is.

00:45:36 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I I love it.

00:45:36 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It's so easy it's.

00:45:38 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Fun, it comes.

00:45:40 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It comes sort of natural to me because I feel like a lot of it is sort of centered around camping, and I love camping.

00:45:46 Matt Marshall

Ah yes.

00:45:48 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

My dad used to take us camping all the time.

00:45:50 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

We kept by a river or lake in the mountains of southern Colorado near Durango or Pagosa Springs.

00:45:57 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Those areas like that so.

00:45:59 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

In like 10 to 14,000 foot peak mountains. Great mountain stream. Like late by Acedo. Lemon lake. Places like that and I would learn Dad teach me how to get there, how to set up the camp that the tint fish on the river.

00:46:19 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And there's actual diagrams for this.

00:46:21 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You get in the military, and the military teaches you like infantry, huge infantry group type.

00:46:29 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Outdoor field training.

00:46:31 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

If you're in a large Army unit, you can be in about a 15 by 15 foot GP tent with a wooden floor.

00:46:40 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

They sometimes use either.

00:46:42 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Uhm, wood crates or other things.

00:46:44 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

For wooden floor you might have cots for or not cots, but bunk beds for actual bids with half real mattresses you might have generators out there for power to turn on a fan if it's really hot.

00:46:57 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

If you're in the desert.

00:46:59 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Or turn on a heater if you're in the uh, like a a cold environment, but I I loved training with this survival manual type stuff in mind, either for camping or in the military, or anything else like that.

00:47:14 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And it I felt like, yeah, we're we're outdoors were kept and we're setting up the tent.

00:47:18 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

We're doing this.

00:47:19 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

For doing that, we're in the desert now, so you know if you're in the military, you get at least a week or so a year of concentrated focused training in desert.

00:47:29 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Then another week or one 2-3 weeks, you're going to be on deployment in the.

00:47:33 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Philippines or Thailand you're going.

00:47:35 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

To go to Operation Talay Thai or something like that.

00:47:38 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You're going to.

00:47:39 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Be a week to three weeks in jungle training and you get to go to Jess school jungle environment, survival training school and the ties might ask you to drink.

00:47:49 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Cobra blood or something?

00:47:50 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It's crazy stuff.

00:47:51 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You learn how to eat the bugs and you'll learn how to stay dry when it's monsoon season and stuff like that.

00:48:00 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It's great stuff guys.

00:48:02 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It's really fun, exciting to learn.

00:48:06 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

But as you go into the survival guide here, what I want to try to make tantamount to everybody is survival and preparedness and military operations are one thing, but I'm asking and asking everybody imploring highly suggesting if it's just camping you're going after.

00:48:26 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Please remember to keep that campground.

00:48:29 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

That area that you're in remember your hygiene, your field sanitation and we always try to leave that campsite as clean or cleaner than when we got there, yeah.

00:48:42 Matt Marshall

Yeah, when I was a when I was a kid we would I I had a a camp that I would go to and and we would go down Ming bird music camp.

00:48:50 Matt Marshall

That's right.

00:48:51 Matt Marshall

I was a drummer.

00:48:53 Matt Marshall

And and I remember one of the things.

00:48:56 Matt Marshall

About 2 * 2 times a week if I remember correctly, one or two times a week we would all go on this on this.

00:49:05 Matt Marshall

Actual camping trip where we go out.

00:49:08 Matt Marshall

We stay in tents, sleeping bags, things like that normally at a music camp.

00:49:12 Matt Marshall

It's it's more for music and for we're in bunk beds and things like that, but we'd actually go out on a camping trip and that was the number one thing.

00:49:20 Matt Marshall

First off, everybody has to go out and collect some, collect some wood and put it in a big old pile so that the cooks.

00:49:25 Matt Marshall

Have something to use but then but then it's.

00:49:30 Matt Marshall

By the time.

00:49:31 Matt Marshall

We leave the next morning.

00:49:32 Matt Marshall

Everyone has to come back with a piece of trash.

00:49:36 Matt Marshall

You know you gotta go around.

00:49:37 Matt Marshall

Everyone has to go around.

00:49:39 Matt Marshall

You have to come back with a piece of trash even or more if you find more.

00:49:43 Matt Marshall

But the whole point is to keep the camp the campsite cleaner than when you left it there.

00:49:50 Matt Marshall

Then when you arrived.

00:49:50 Matt Marshall

Then when you arrived, so yeah, absolutely.

00:49:51 Matt Marshall

So yeah.

00:49:52 Matt Marshall

Absolutely good lesson.

00:49:53 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Good lesson, bet you guys this if you got the PDF version open.

00:49:57 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I mean you're if you download the app.

00:50:00 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It's going to be fun if you've got the flash cards that's going to be fun.

00:50:05 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You can learn different people, learn different, learn faster and easier, and retain more different ways.

00:50:12 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

So find the one that works for you.

00:50:14 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

There's there's the online PDF, or you can download it so you can have it in your documents on your computer.

00:50:20 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

There's the app.

00:50:22 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

There's flash cards.

00:50:23 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

There's the actual manual, but what I want to show you about the the PDF if you're online or whatever.

00:50:28 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Is you can control.

00:50:29 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

F word search and you can go to camp and you're going to see keep campsite clean, yeah?

00:50:36 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And learn things about you.

00:50:37 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Know how do you dig your cat holds to cover waste.

00:50:41 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Where do you go?

00:50:42 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

In accordance with where your campsite is located for your catholes.

00:50:47 Matt Marshall

Now I thought you were going to leave your cat.

00:50:49 Matt Marshall

Behind in a survival situation.

00:50:50 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I'm gonna leave the cat behind, but we're going to have a cat hole so we can bury her there and leave her behind.

00:50:58 Speaker 3

And you could go.

00:50:58 Speaker 3

Right?

00:50:59 Speaker 3

Right down the.

00:51:00 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Line with these guys, keep your.

00:51:02 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Dude, don't don't spoil the ground in the campsite area with.

00:51:06 Speaker 3

Urine and feces.

00:51:07 Speaker 3

These are things that.

00:51:07 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You would think are obvious, but I've actually seen soldiers urinate.

00:51:13 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

No more than like 10 feet from their shelter house.

00:51:17 Matt Marshall

Awesome it go there's.

00:51:20 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

We've got a site set.

00:51:21 Speaker 3

Up over there for that, take your E tool.

00:51:23 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And and do your you know.

00:51:25 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Sit on your E tool if you have two or whatever.

00:51:28 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

But yeah, there's a site for that way over there, so you're not doing it too close to your your tent or you're still to have order I.

00:51:35 Speaker 3

Know we're talking.

00:51:36 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Probably to a lot of Gen X hours that are in their 30s, forties, fifties 60s or so. A lot of you guys might be in RV's. Pull behind campers, maybe fifth wheels or whatever so you're really not roughing it too much.

00:51:49 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

But we're giving you all this information, just in case you ever get.

00:51:52 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

To that spot where you're like.

00:51:54 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Now we're in this camper for a while because we're in like a survival or preparedness situation and.

00:52:00 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

This is just this is just one of those.

00:52:03 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Pieces of information or tools just to put in your toolbox.

00:52:06 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You have all this information here on on the survival manual.

00:52:10 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Keeping your campsite clean.

00:52:12 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

That goes towards.

00:52:13 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Some campers and stuff like that as.

00:52:15 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Well, I mean you're not going to.

00:52:17 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Really go what's going on here with my things.

00:52:20 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Not really going to the next site for camp.

00:52:24 Matt Marshall

You frozen your computer, it's broken.

00:52:26 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

There you go.

00:52:27 Speaker 3

Here's here's a.

00:52:28 Speaker 3

Helpful hint be.

00:52:30 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Sure, the fire is out before leaving your campsite.

00:52:33 Matt Marshall

Yeah yeah out in California especially yeah.

00:52:36 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Now those fire alerts are out there all the time for.

00:52:40 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Everybody to see.

00:52:43 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

As we're about to close in on this survival guide, I wanted to just go over again real quick.

00:52:50 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

What it is, where you can find it.

00:52:52 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It's table of contents here.

00:52:54 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

See right here in the video.

00:52:56 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

If you can't see it very well.

00:52:58 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Here, that's going to.

00:52:59 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Probably try to re record it in a higher resolution.

00:53:04 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

With a different type of screen capture, but again, we're going with the over the US Army survival manual.

00:53:11 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Introduction so I bought survival actions pattern for survival psychology of survival.

00:53:16 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

A look at stress natural reactions.

00:53:20 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Preparing yourself.

00:53:21 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

We've gone over a lot of this in this episode.

00:53:25 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

The importance of planning survival kits, tips on how to build a Survival kit.

00:53:31 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Fast and easy and what to put in it are in the survival manual.

00:53:37 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Basic survival medicine.

00:53:40 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Building shelters water procurement as you go through this survival manual in the first parts of it, it's going.

00:53:46 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

To tell you.

00:53:47 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Here's your priorities, actually.

00:53:50

You're going to.

00:53:50 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Set up their camp.

00:53:51 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You got to look at the lay of your land.

00:53:54 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

The river is running this way.

00:53:56 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

This is probably where your upstream over here is where you're going to get.

00:53:59 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Your water to drink or you're going to fish or whatever, then the next place you're going to collect water for other things, then down over here you're going to maybe beide or whatever else.

00:54:08 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Whether you're bathing and you're using.

00:54:11 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Soap, or you're brushing your teeth and you're using toothpaste.

00:54:15 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You gotta try to think about doing that hygienically and sanitary wise, environmentally safest or friendly as well 'cause you want.

00:54:23 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Toothpaste and and you know soap from your bathing all over the river as well.

00:54:29 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

If you catch fish and you're cleaning fish.

00:54:30 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

If you catch.

00:54:33 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

For eating, and you've built a fire and everything else like that.

00:54:36 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You don't want your fish guts all over the place, so there's a lot of things to consider because I've seen a lot of people camping on the river and they catch something they should be on a lake or wherever, and they they're camping, so they want to clean their fish and eat them there later.

00:54:53 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

That night or whatever.

00:54:54 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And they clean their fish and they.

00:54:55 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Leave the head and guts like right there on.

00:54:58 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You go out there the next day, then you've got a fish head, fish, guts and their powerbait or their worms or whatever bait there.

00:55:06 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Or use them all still there and a whole bunch of birds, flies, ants, everything else that you've got to avoid now.

00:55:13 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Yeah, there's a lot of considerations.

00:55:16 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

To this kind of stuff guys, it's not just camping.

00:55:19 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Or preparedness or survival.

00:55:21 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

This manual has it all.

00:55:24 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

If it doesn't have it, all you can.

00:55:26 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And peeing matter myself and have your comments or ask us any questions.

00:55:32 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

What what do you have met?

00:55:35 Matt Marshall

We've got a million different resources, things that we can that we can pull from as we've talked about in a couple of other of our other shows.

00:55:46 Matt Marshall

Our history you mentioned we're no experts, of course, but

00:55:51 Speaker 3

The the.

00:55:52 Matt Marshall

The fact that we've put years and years of thought into this.

00:55:57 Matt Marshall

Uh, we can, only we can do nothing but help.

00:56:00 Matt Marshall

And if there's something that we can't help with then we can learn.

00:56:03 Matt Marshall

And so I'm I'm.

00:56:05 Matt Marshall

This is very exciting to to go through.

00:56:07 Matt Marshall

I'm I'm getting the feeling that you like this manual a little bit and.

00:56:11 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I love this manual every every almost every bullet that I see.

00:56:15 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I want to talk about eventually, like life saving steps.

00:56:19 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

People don't know the life saving steps.

00:56:22 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You know they don't know.

00:56:24 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

They don't know basics.

00:56:25 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Some people don't know basics of heat stroke and heat exhaustion.

00:56:30 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Heat exhaustion, somebody is just really hot and dry.

00:56:34 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It may be hot and sweaty.

00:56:36 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

They need to be cooled down.

00:56:37 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

They need some.

00:56:38 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

They need to get rehydrated.

00:56:40 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Heatstroke, red hot and dry.

00:56:44 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

They're ready to die.

00:56:45 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Very simple, simple limericks like that.

00:56:48 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

If they're red, hot and dry and you guys are out.

00:56:51 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Lost somewhere near Las Vegas or something like that, or Carlsbad Caverns or some.

00:56:56 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Yeah, red hot and dry.

00:56:58 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

They're ready to die.

00:56:59 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You need to get them shelter and medical attention and water immediately.

00:57:04 Matt Marshall

Cool down, yeah.

00:57:04 Matt Marshall

Cool down.

00:57:04 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Or yeah, yeah, and cool down immediately.

00:57:06 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I'm talking like strip them down and throw ice on them if you have to.

00:57:11 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I've actually seen this happen.

00:57:13 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

We've thrown ice blankets on people.

00:57:15 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

We had those.

00:57:16 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Already in the military, when we'd go on these forced 25 mile right ruck marches you gotta and that's part of being prepared and and Matt and I are very excited to talk about these things please. Procurement firecraft.

00:57:29 Matt Marshall

Hey, and have you ever heard have you ever?

00:57:32 Matt Marshall

Heard of the the mission?

00:57:35 Matt Marshall

It's a like a survival rag or a cooling rag.

00:57:39 Matt Marshall

Have you have?

00:57:39 Matt Marshall

You seen these things?

00:57:41 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Jeep MB at.

00:57:42 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

The orange curve out you're not talking about.

00:57:44 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

The orange curve at you fireball.

00:57:44 Matt Marshall

No no, no no.

00:57:46 Matt Marshall

They're from mission is the name of the the name of the brand, but we actually a friend of mine and I went through the Tough Mudder race and and yeah, the cooling tower.

00:57:58 Matt Marshall

You'll see it there.

00:57:58 Matt Marshall

There's actually a couple of different versions that you can get.

00:58:01 Matt Marshall

There's one that's more like a buff.

00:58:02 Matt Marshall

That you can pull up around your head, and then there's one that's that.

00:58:05 Matt Marshall

You see that blue one on the right hand.

00:58:07 Matt Marshall

Inside there it's.

00:58:08 Matt Marshall

It's just something you throw over you, but one of the things that's the the coolest.

00:58:13 Matt Marshall

Literally the coolest as you can sit here, you can throw a bit of just a little bit of water on it, get it, get it a little bit soaked and then just shake it out and it becomes almost like this freezing technology that that occurs.

00:58:27 Matt Marshall

And so you can see you can put it around your neck and it'll cool you down.

00:58:30 Matt Marshall

Put it around your head, it'll cool you down.

00:58:32 Matt Marshall

It's really, really quite impressive, so that's another one of those things that I'd recommend.

00:58:37 Matt Marshall

People get to cool themselves down quickly.

00:58:39

Yeah guys, you.

00:58:40 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

See this on Amazon for less than $10 and then you right now from experience, this can actually probably help save somebody's life. 'cause I've seen actually a few cases where.

00:58:52 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Uhm, I've seen Navy corpsman take a marine and throw him down and cut his clothes off of him.

00:59:00 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Cut his boots off of him and everything stripped naked and throw.

00:59:05 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Buckets of ice water and these cooling type things on because if if they're going through heat stroke, that means their core temperature is so hot that they could go into actual stroke and just comatose and dead their their core temperature needs to be cooled down immediately.

00:59:25 Matt Marshall

Right, right?

00:59:26 Matt Marshall

And it's a.

00:59:27 Matt Marshall

It's actually a very, very short period of time.

00:59:30 Matt Marshall

We uhm Kristen and I, my wife and I went through our no heat stroke for little kids.

00:59:37 Matt Marshall

That's one of the podcasts we had.

00:59:39 Matt Marshall

One of the first podcasts we did.

00:59:40 Matt Marshall

Actually, and and that was one of the things that she talked about.

00:59:44 Matt Marshall

I think it's something like 3 minutes, some 3 or 4 minutes.

00:59:47 Matt Marshall

Something like that. If a person if a person core body temperature goes exceeds 103 degrees or something like that, they're basically approaching death.

00:59:55 Matt Marshall

You know if it gets up to 107, they're you know, not that you want to be a.

01:00:01 Matt Marshall

Like all fatalistic or anything, but yeah, they're they're toast, you know.

01:00:06 Matt Marshall

Just gotta get it down quick.

01:00:08 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Yeah, so like heat cramps, they're cramping.

01:00:10 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Up a little.

01:00:10 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Bit just give him a little bit of sodium if you got it and some water, get him hydrated.

01:00:15 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Let him stretch out.

01:00:17 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Yeah, I'm not even worried about heat cramps.

01:00:19 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Yeah, I mean you don't want to have them keep trying to complete the half marathon or marathon.

01:00:25 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

'cause then they're going to possibly pull muscle.

01:00:28 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Yeah, but just.

01:00:28 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Have them step aside for a little bit.

01:00:30 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Stretch out, take in some water with some.

01:00:35 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Electrolytes, they'll eventually be fine pretty quickly.

01:00:38 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Not a major thing.

01:00:39 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Heat exhaustion.

01:00:41 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

They can be cool, pale, clammy skin.

01:00:44 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

They're sweating a lot, and they're just like, oh, they've got heat exhaustion.

01:00:48 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Another heat casualty kind of thing, not a.

01:00:51 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Huge issue, heatstroke.

01:00:54 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Get those guys cooled down as soon as possible and even after you cool them down, go ahead and call for medical 'cause you never can tell.

01:00:55 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

That's strange what?

01:01:02 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Just add medical on the way but there's a whole bunch of.

01:01:06 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Things like this that.

01:01:07 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Preparedness and survival is not just about hoarding food.

01:01:13 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Or trying to.

01:01:13 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Compete in some hundred day naked and afraid contest.

01:01:19 Matt Marshall

That's right.

01:01:21 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Anything else you gotta build up this repertoire of knowledge for all these little things?

01:01:26 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Splinting a fracture?

01:01:29 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Taking out stickers, Avraham, Beasts teams, snake bites.

01:01:34 Matt Marshall

Beast, yeah.

01:01:36 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

What kind of?

01:01:37 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Insects or snakes, or all the different?

01:01:39 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

There's mission.

01:01:40 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I went camping recently, not too far from Galveston and.

01:01:44 Matt Marshall

I didn't know this, but.

01:01:46 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Apparently in the coastal plains.

01:01:49 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Right off of the coast of Galveston, there are rattlesnakes.

01:01:55 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Not far off of Crystal Beach near Galveston, there's a like a 15 foot alligator that screws in the water.

01:02:01 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

For some reason people don't understand it, but they've spotted in several times and he eats big turtles.

01:02:07 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

He hasn't threatened the people out there yet, but there's a big alligator out there.

01:02:11 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Yeah yeah, but the survival manual has.

01:02:15 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It it doesn't matter.

01:02:15 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

This it covers Australia, Asia, different parts of the world.

01:02:19 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It covers poisonous snakes, berries and other things that you can eat.

01:02:25 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You'll see it in in the.

01:02:29 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

In the table of contents there water procurement, building, sheriff shelters, fire craft.

01:02:36 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Food procurement, survival.

01:02:38 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Use of plants, poisonous plants, almost anything you can think of is in there, so it's not just about one little thing or the other, it's all in there and.

01:02:50 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

As we go a little further down, if you guys you don't even really have to download this.

01:02:56 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You can come to this page right here if you have a printer or go to your library printer and this is cool right here.

01:03:05 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Just print this little part.

01:03:06 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Just print this page.

01:03:09 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And then cut this out and then.

01:03:11 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Laminate this and.

01:03:12 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Put this in your wallet or someplace near your phone.

01:03:15 Matt Marshall

Now, so for those who are listening, this is just a little placard.

01:03:19 Speaker 1

Yeah, Gert.

01:03:20 Matt Marshall

Basically, with that with the survival acronym on it.

01:03:23 Matt Marshall

So let's let's read through this real quick so.

01:03:25 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Yes, so go ahead Matt.

01:03:27 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

He's gonna see it.

01:03:27 Matt Marshall

Yeah SS size up the situation you use all your senses and undue haste makes waste.

01:03:36 Matt Marshall

R remember where you are, the vanquished, fear and panic.

01:03:42 Matt Marshall

I improvise the value, living a act like the natives L live by your wits but for now learn basic skills.

01:03:54 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Basic skills yes.

01:03:56 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And there it is guys and.

01:03:59 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Like Matt said, if you can't see.

01:04:00 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It you can, if you can eventually get to.

01:04:03 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

A place where you can find it.

01:04:05 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Most Rangers and other folks like that that I know they have this cut out, laminated and put in their wallet along with different other types of cards.

01:04:14 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

There's a variety of different cards you can have in there for field craft.

01:04:18 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

First aid nine line medevac orders because a lot of people forget how to dual mind lines, so a lot of personnel in the military or in law enforcement that are in those situations they get themselves a little laminated card that shows them line by line.

01:04:34 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

How to go through a nine line medevac?

01:04:37 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Question civilians can do this if they can.

01:04:40 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

If they can get the right phone numbers.

01:04:42 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

If you're in a really bad situation, you call you say right down through your nine line.

01:04:48 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I can't spit him out right off the top of my head right now.

01:04:51 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

That's why you have your nine line medevac card on them and you can get a medevac helicopter out there if needed sometimes.

01:04:58 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

All those little things like that you have these little cards.

01:05:00 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You laminate them, you put them in your wallet and you're you're almost good.

01:05:05 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Good as gold, you're good.

01:05:06 Matt Marshall

To hook, yeah, good deal, good deal.

01:05:06 Matt Marshall

Yeah, good deal.

01:05:09 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

So Matt, what kind of parting shots do?

01:05:11 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You have for us tonight.

01:05:17 Matt Marshall

Well, number one you.

01:05:17 Matt Marshall

Well, number one.

01:05:19 Matt Marshall

Your passion, your excitement about this.

01:05:23 Matt Marshall

It's, uh, it's contagious and it makes me want to go read this manual if.

01:05:28 Matt Marshall

If not, I've read several manuals similar to this, but just.

01:05:33 Matt Marshall

From different perspective, maybe not necessarily military, but similarly, but I like this as I was reading through it and and leading up to this.

01:05:43 Matt Marshall

One of the things that was most interesting I found is how simple things are.

01:05:48 Matt Marshall

Put you know it.

01:05:50 Matt Marshall

It's it's very simple, very quick and it's just simple.

01:05:54 Matt Marshall

It's kind of like that that just tell it like it is.

01:05:58 Matt Marshall

Get the message across and you don't need to say anymore.

01:06:02 Matt Marshall

You know, as simple as that and so now some people may try to glean more from whatever.

01:06:09 Matt Marshall

Being said, and whatever is being written in the book.

01:06:11 Matt Marshall

But but, uh.

01:06:13 Matt Marshall

Very very good information.

01:06:15 Matt Marshall

So I thank you for bringing it to the bring it to the show.

01:06:18 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Absolutely, and that's going to be my parting shot.

01:06:21 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I'm going to piggyback off of.

01:06:22 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

That and say.

01:06:23 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

That's part of the reason that I'm so.

01:06:24 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Excited about this.

01:06:25 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It was so.

01:06:26 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Fun because it's so fast and easy to take little digestible pieces of this and learn it very well.

01:06:33 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And when you get the chance, actually put it into practice in the field.

01:06:38 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And you're you're going to.

01:06:40 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Develop so much.

01:06:41 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Skill and confidence in doing this so fast I'm not going.

01:06:45 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

To lie to you.

01:06:45 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Like building a snare, you know getting yourself some snow line and building a snare and actually snaring rabbits or squirrels is extremely difficult, and you're not going to get it for a long time.

01:06:58 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

So there's things like that that are going to be extremely challenging, so don't let that.

01:07:05 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Dissuade you from.

01:07:08 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Continuing to learn what you can, there might be other things in there that are more challenging or almost impossible for you to learn right right now for, for example, mountaineering.

01:07:19 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You're not going to get.

01:07:20 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You're not going to become an expert on all different types of rope.

01:07:24 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You know kernmantle and braided rope and what's?

01:07:27 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Better for climbing and what's better for repelling or something like this and your next thing you know, you're actually splinting somebody leg and putting them in.

01:07:37 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Uhm, basically.

01:07:39 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

A stretcher and rappelling down the Cliff with an injured person in a stretcher.

01:07:46 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

That's that's an an advanced skill that you're going to need specialized training in, but these little things, like cutting survival acronym card out.

01:07:59 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Getting the survival manual.

01:08:01 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Hardcopy PDF.

01:08:04 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Or the app.

01:08:06 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Everything like this is so fast, fun and easy.

01:08:08 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

These little pieces of information are so fun to digest and they're so practical.

01:08:13 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Use them everyday in the Marines and the army when we're out in the field and so fun and easy to train. Then you have all this cool gear. You got your 550 cord and.

01:08:24 Speaker 3

And your little signaling.

01:08:25 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Mirror and now the next time you're you're trying to signal it, not at night, and you're using.

01:08:32 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Some steel wool and a 9 Volt battery and you like the.

01:08:36 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Steel wool up.

01:08:36 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Well yeah, you got people like a mile.

01:08:37 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And you swing it around and.

01:08:37 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You swing.

01:08:41 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Away that say yeah, we can see it you.

01:08:43 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Practice things like.

01:08:44 Speaker 3

This it's so fun.

01:08:45 Speaker 3

It's so great you're like OK now what else can we do at night, oh?

01:08:48 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

There's the Big Dipper and there's Cassiopeia, and those two stars from the Big Dipper point this way, and those two stars.

01:08:57 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

From Cassiopea point this way, and there's the North Star.

01:09:02 Speaker 3

Ah, so I know where I'm at now, I.

01:09:03 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Know where I'm at and know where there's there's true north so there's east there's West their cell.

01:09:08 Matt Marshall

Yeah, yeah.

01:09:09 Speaker 3

Simple simple stuff guys, I mean.

01:09:12 Speaker 3

So easy, even a crayon eating marine.

01:09:17 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Can do it.

01:09:20 Matt Marshall

Take it from Crayon eating, crayon eating marine OK.

01:09:26 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Here's here's the thing guys.

01:09:28 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Here's my parting shot.

01:09:29 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

These are hard skills.

01:09:33 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

You're we're in Gen X.

01:09:34 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

We're in our 40s and 50s and stuff a lot of us have gotten to a place where we're in the office and doing soft skills more.

01:09:42 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Yeah, those require a little bit more experienced managerial wise and paperwork wise or organizational management stuff like that.

01:09:53 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

These are hard skills.

01:09:54 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

They're blue collar, et cetera.

01:09:56 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

They're fast and easy to pick up and learn.

01:10:01 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And they're freaking fun.

01:10:02 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

They're fun.

01:10:03 Matt Marshall

It's fun.

01:10:03 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It's fun.

01:10:04 Speaker 1

It's it's.

01:10:04

It's so stuff.

01:10:05 Speaker 3

Cool, it's fun.

01:10:06 Speaker 3

It's like I started a fire.

01:10:09 Speaker 3

I signaled somebody at night and they could see me a mile away with steel wool and a 9 Volt battery.

01:10:15 Speaker 3

And then I started a survival campfire with it, yeah?

01:10:20 Matt Marshall

That's pretty BA.

01:10:21 Speaker 3

It's cool I love.

01:10:22 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

It and I just can't stop.

01:10:25 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Talking about it.

01:10:26 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

So anyway guys, that's part of my parting shot.

01:10:28 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

And then we're also going to go over the guidebook for Marines in another episode.

01:10:32 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

I'm going to be putting out some more fast easy snippets on Tik T.O.K and Instagram and stuff like that.

01:10:38 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

We thank you for your support.

01:10:40 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

We thank you if you're listening and we thank you for being here and be prepared, Matt.

01:10:46 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

What do you say?

01:10:47 Matt Marshall

That's good for me.

01:10:48 Speaker 3

Gen X talking guys.

01:10:50 Ed Wasson (aka Wilksie)

Be prepared U.S. Army survival manual.
