Five Concepts to stay Situationally Aware so We can be Better Prepared

1. Multiple weather sources including a local independent meteorologist
   • Local Area provider such as (https://justinweather.com/)
   • NOAA (https://www.noaa.gov/weather) 
   • The Weather Channel (https://weather.com/) - often a bit more dramatic
   • National Weather Service (https://www.weather.gov/) - weather statements, advisories, warnings and watches
2. Health Related Updates
   • Local Area Department of Health - for more local info
   • CDC - trends related to virus and other disease
   • WHO - larger area info especially if traveling
3. Multiple News Sites
   • Local event breaking news on social media for awareness within your area
   • Understand the biases of the new sources you use
     • all news sources have biases
   • Select multiple sources to get a more balanced understanding
   • Avoid opinion sources (unfortunately that’s much of the news)
   • Make your own educated and informed decisions
4. Local Crime and Other Activities
   • SpotCrime Report - email update with weekly stats in local area
   • Nextdoor - stay aware of immediate events occurring in local neighborhood
   • Phone Apps Like PulsePoint, 311 and CodeRed Alerts
5. Tracking Large Natural Events within season
   • National Hurricane Center (https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/)
   • Storm Prediction Center (https://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/watch/)
   • Other Events (https://www.weather.gov/alerts)
